How to Increase your Festive Season Security with Garden Fencing

Posted on December 11,2019 by Charlie Stimpson.

Unfortunately, although it is the most wonderful time of year, it is also the time of year that homes are at most risk from intruders. With this in mind, what can you do in terms of your garden fencing to increase security?

Lockable Garden Gates

If you have side or rear access to your garden, having lockable garden gates is imperative to good security. When talking to garden fencing and gates suppliers about security in your garden, ask them about the option of adding a secure lockable latch. This will be an added hurdle to anyone attempting to infiltrate your property.

Secure Front Garden Gates

Don’t forget that securing your front garden is important too. Adding driveway gates can be a good move. This can either be lockable garden gates, as per the rear garden gates described above, or a more popular option for front gardens is automated garden gates.

Automated entrance gates give added convenience when approaching by car, as well as extra security of course. Adding garden gates make it hard for intruders to scale the boundary, and also adds privacy from prying eyes who may be trying to see what Christmas presents you have stored under the tree!

Good Quality Garden Fencing

Of course, good garden security begins with good quality garden fencing. Have your new fencing installed by specialist garden fencing contractors, as this means that your gates will be as secure as you could possibly hope for. Having it professionally installed means that there will be no wobbling or leaning of the fence and fence posts, making it harder for intruders to scale and / or see into your property.

If you’re unsure on how to find trustworthy garden fencing contractors, remember that as well as the standard web searches for ‘garden fencing near me’, any contractors worth putting your trust into will also be able to provide you with testimonials and potential clients to contact for recommendations. You want to be able to use a fencing contractor who will make you feel secure within your home, not uneasy with their work.

Maintaining Existing Fencing

If you already have good quality garden fencing in place, be sure to check it regularly for signs of wear and tear. At this time of year, the elements can easily take their toll on our garden fencing and posts, and this could be the chink in the armour – or crack in the fence panel – that an intruder uses to gain access to your property.

If you do find any leaning or sunken posts, or cracked or partially missing fence panels, make sure you get them repaired as soon as possible. It is a false economy to leave dilapidated fence panels if it means that your home is broken into and those precious Christmas gifts you’ve loving saved for are taken.
